Because pure silver is relatively soft and it reacts to oxygen causing it to dull and need polishing, the other 7.5% here was made from rhodium, platinum’s sister. This drastically reduces the frequency these will need polishing, whilst maintaining sterling silver’s status as being perfect for those with allergies – rhodium is completely inert and non-reactive, with no history of causing reactions in anyone. For this reason, these are called “sterling silver enhanced with rhodium“, because they’re really extended silver’s good points and minimised its bad points through this pairing.
