Description

Agates are a type of semi precious gemstone characterised by their bright colour and fineness of grain. On this clip earring, a 3cm (1.3inch) teardrop of agate hangs from an allergy safe rhodium clip on fitting, giving a total drop of around 5cm.

This particular agate is called Apollo for it’s colour palette, although as a natural material the exact colour and pattern varies from stone to stone. You can expect cosmic swirls in a variety of orange, yellow and clear streaks with dashes of reds, pinks, and occassional fine brown or black lines or dots. All the agate is chosen to be of a similar style, so although each item varies, and even left and right ears will be unique, they’re all of a reasonable likeness to the examples shown in the photography here.

Agate is fundamentally a type of quartz which is why it has historically been believed to increase one’s security and self-confidence. It was also often given to women who had recently given birth to improve their sense of wellbeing. As a gemstone most commonly found in volcanic deposits, it has also been used to ward off various types of evil. Although it isn’t costly like diamonds or emeralds, it has a certain stunning natural beauty, allowing it to worn easily without fear of being overdressed.
